Getting started on a basement remodeling project

See the next topic in this section

The first tasks on the project plan were to clean out the basement. What a big job that turned out to be! Just cleaning out my 'work room' took two weekends!

We must have hauled out 15-20 bags of stuff we decided we didn't need. Lots of kids' toys, and other things we were hanging on to 'just in case'.

A project like this is the perfect opportunity to get rid of things you've been holding on to. Things you probably didn't need anyway. The more you clear out now, the let you have to organize later!

One thing I wish I would have done was to donate some of the stuff to charity (instead of just throwing it away). I'm sure others could have used a lot of the stuff we didn't want, plus it would have been a nice little tax deduction.

Unfortunately, it didn't dawn on me to do this until it was too late.
